GATINEAU, QUE. — A new call for proposals (CFP) has been launched for the federal Sectoral Initiatives Program to generate skills and labour initiatives, and eligible organizations are encouraged to apply for funding.
Patty Hajdu, minister of employment, workforce development and labour, announced the new program Sept. 8 which is expected to improve access to relevant sectoral labour market information.
Through the CFP, industry partners such as workplace organizations, employers and indigenous organizations can apply for funding for projects that will help industries identify, forecast and address current and future human resources and skills issues, which includes attracting, integrating and retaining Canadian workers, including indigenous people and recent immigrants, states a release.
The CFP is seeking multi-year projects targeting the development and dissemination of sectoral labour market information, national occupational standards, certification programs and accreditation systems for key industry sectors including construction, manufacturing, minerals, quarrying, oil and gas extraction, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, utilities, transportation and warehousing as well as information and cultural industries, adds the release. Priority will be given to projects that examine issues related to gender, indigenous people and the changing nature of work.
The CFP will be open until Oct. 23.
"With the labour market data our government is helping to generate, employers can better address the skills needs of their workers, while educational and training institutions can ensure the training they provide matches employers’ needs," said Hajdu in a statement.
