Ontario invests in Sault Ste. Marie pipe mill

SAULT STE. MARIE, ONT. — The Tenaris Algoma Tubes seamless pipe mill in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. will be able to modernize equipment and plant facilities thanks to an investment from the Ontario government.

The province is investing $2 million in the Tenaris Algoma Tubes’ modernization project through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

The investment has allowed Tenaris to re-open their plant, following a temporary suspension of operations in 2016, securing 130 local jobs, states a release.

Tenaris, which manufactures seamless steel pipes for Canada’s oil and gas industry, suspended operations in February 2016 due to a downturn in the oil and gas market. Strong demand and new orders allowed Tenaris to resume operations in November 2016, the release reports.
