Gas tax funding slated for 99 transit systems

TORONTO — The Province of Ontario has announced allocations from the proceeds of its gas tax program, highlighting details of public transit funding in Brampton, Ont. as part of a 99-municipality strategy.

The media release issued Dec. 12 said the gas tax funding will go to cities and towns across the province to enhance and expand their transit systems, reduce congestion and shorten commute times.

Steven Del Duca, minister of transportation, was joined by MPPs Harinder Malhi and Vic Dhillon in Brampton to announce the funding. Brampton is receiving over $10 million to support upgrades and enhancements that could include purchasing new transit vehicles, adding more routes, extending hours of service or improving accessibility.
