Major expansion work slated for Highway 417

OTTAWA — The governments of Canada and Ontario have announced funding for a major expansion of Highway 417 in the Ottawa region.

Several politicians were on hand in Ottawa Dec. 19 to announce funding amounting to $47.57 million from each level of government.

The project involves the expansion of Highway 417 from six to eight lanes for three kilometres, between Maitland Avenue and Island Park Drive in Ottawa. The work will also include the rehabilitation and expansion of the Merivale Road Bridge. The media statement indicates the expansion will support Canada’s trade both inter-provincially and internationally by helping to reduce traffic congestion on this section of the Trans-Canada Highway network.
