London, Ont.—Rob Ellis and Jessica DiSabatino were recently presented with the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Cross.
On March 9, Gov. Gen. David Johnston presented them each with the Meritorious Service Cross at a ceremony in London, Ont. for their work with MySafeWork.
After losing a family member in a preventable workplace incident, Ellis and DiSabatino, his daughter, founded MySafeWork so that other young workers would know how to deal with unsafe situations in the workplace, states a release issued by the Governor General. Each year, they deliver presentations to over 100,000 students, employers and policy-makers, empowering them to build a culture of safety in their industries.
The Meritorious Service Decorations celebrate Canadians who have performed an exceptional deed or activity that brings honour to Canada, adds the release. The decorations are separated into military and civil divisions, with two levels each: a cross and a medal. Ellis and DiSabatino were honoured in the Civil Division, which recognizes remarkable contributions in many different fields of endeavour, from advocacy initiatives and health care services, to research and humanitarian efforts.
The Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) recently celebrated the duo’s efforts and accomplishments.
"OGCA started a relationship with Rob and MySafeWork over three years ago and they have been able to reach out and touch many of our members and their employees," reads an OGCA newsletter issued March 14. "The creation of the League of Champions last year has helped to take the message across the Ontario construction industry in a short period of time."
