New Durham children’s centre receives funding

admin Image admin

TORONTO — Children and youth with special needs in Durham Region will benefit from the construction of a new facility, thanks to a boost from the Ontario government.

The new facility will create more treatment spaces, shorter wait times and a modern facility so that families can access the care they need sooner, states a release issued by the province.

Grandview Children’s Centre was designed in 1983 to serve about 400 children per year, but increasing demand — partly due to Durham’s growing population — means that the centre now serves over 6,000 children and youth each year, according to a press statement.

Ontario is investing up to $31 million to help Grandview Children’s Centre build new treatment space. This will help the treatment centre better meet the growing demand.

Grandview Children’s Centre offers a range of services to children and youth with special needs, including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, social work services, audiology, therapeutic recreation and family resources and support.
