MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has announced that the consortium Niagara Falls Entertainment Partners has been named the preferred proponent in OLG’s procurement process to design, build and maintain a new Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre (NFEC).
The winning team, announced July 12, includes Bird Construction Inc.
The new NFEC is expected to have over 5,000 seats and will create direct jobs associated with the construction, ongoing maintenance and operations of the facility, notes an OLG media statement.
The facility will eventually be operated by the service provider selected to take over day-to-day operations of Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara.
Bird will perform the design and construction of the project and will also, through Bird Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary, take a minority equity interest in the concession responsible for the overall project, including design, construction, financing and maintenance.
"This important project adds to our expanding portfolio of public-private partnership projects and further establishes the company as a key Canadian participant in this delivery model," said Ian Boyd, president and CEO of Bird, in a media statement.
The selection of Niagara Falls Entertainment Partners and the completion of the procurement process for the NFEC are subject to entering into the final agreements and closing of the commercial and financial transactions.
