Head of CIB to speak at P3 2018 conference

TORONTO — Pierre Lavallee, president and CEO of the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), will be a keynote speaker at the 26th annual Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships (CCPPP) conference taking place Nov. 5 and 6 in Toronto.

Lavallee was appointed as the inaugural head of the CIB earlier this year by former Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi. Prior to that, he served as senior managing director and global head of investment partnerships at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board.

In his address, Lavallee will outline the mandate of the bank and its corporate plans and strategies to enable innovative investments in transformational infrastructure projects, indicates the release, adding the bank has $35 billion available to partner with private investors and provinces, territories, municipalities and Indigenous communities to build infrastructure.

The CIB announced this summer it will provide a $1.28-billion loan to help build a multibillion-dollar electric rail system in Montreal known as the REM. It was the first investment announced by the bank.

In addition to Lavallee, the CCPPP previously announced that Francois-Philippe Champagne, Canada’s minister of infrastructure and communities, will deliver the opening keynote address at the conference.

The P3 2018 conference, which will take place at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Toronto, is a premier event on public-private partnerships and is expected to attract 1,200 senior public and private sector infrastructure leaders from across Canada, providing networking and business development opportunities.
