Dear Editor:
To suggest that opening up the construction market in Ontario municipalities like the City of Toronto will somehow increase tax fraud, makes absolutely no sense. It’s an argument that has no basis whatsoever, and is insulting to many well-respected contractors in the GTA.
The case for fair and open construction tendering at the City of Toronto is simple and it is clear. For the first time in a half century, it will give all qualified workers the chance to build public projects in the City — projects they pay for with their own tax dollars.
Public officials are elected to protect the public interest, not the agendas of special interest groups who’ve enjoyed the perks of a construction labour monopoly for too long.
