OTTAWA — The Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) and its Construction Education Council are urging current and prospective students in the mechanical fields to apply for scholarships from the 2019 Richard McKeagan Scholarship Series.
The series provides more than $26,000 in financial assistance to university, college and apprentice students studying in the sector.
The program has been broadened to include several new initiatives, including scholarships specifically for women in the mechanical field, and First Nations students pursuing education in the trades, stated a recent release.
Scholarships are available through the following MCAC associate members: Federated, Taco Comfort Solutions, Franke Kindred, OS&B, Bradford White Canada, Masco, Wolseley Canada, Uponor and Reliance Worldwide. In addition, the broader associate membership of more than 100 members funds a single MCAC Associate scholarship. As well, 2019 includes new scholarships from DMS Industrial Contractors, Lowe Mechanical and MCA Hamilton Niagara.
The deadline for applications is July 31.
“Being the national association and unified voice of the mechanical contracting industry in Canada, we are keenly aware of how important it is to attract young people to the mechanical contracting field,” said Jack Bavis, MCAC president, in the statement.
Since 2006, MCAC has awarded more than $35,000 in scholarships.
More information about the scholarship program, including application criteria, is available on the Construction Education Council website at mcac.ca/cec/scholarships.
