HAMILTON, ONT. — The Hamilton-Halton Construction Association (HHCA) presented Aaron Besseling of Besseling Mechanical with the Young Leader Award at its 100th annual general meeting and dinner held Feb. 20.

Besseling came from a family of plumbers and was exposed to the mechanical construction industry at an early age, the HHCA citation stated. He joined the HHCA Young Leaders Group in 2015 and took on the role of co-chair in 2017.

Among accomplishments, Besseling contributed to boosting YLG educational services with the launch of the YLG Talks breakfast series, modelled after Ted Talks. The events are free admission and entirely organized by the YLG. Besseling was also part of a YLG team that organized a YLG Talk and Tour at the Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation in the summer of 2019 that featured speakers from Mohawk College, EllisDon and the Canada Green Building Council.

Besseling is a project manager with Besseling Mechanical and holds a diploma in Construction Engineering Technology from Fanshawe College. He is a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists and serves as treasurer of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers Hamilton Chapter.

Young Leader Award recipients are under the age of 40 and employed by an HHCA member firm.
