Nova Scotia towns to upgrade water asset management plans
The federal government today announced it is allocating $50,000 each to the municipal governments of Yarmouth and Lunenburg in Nova Scotia to improve asset management practices relating to their systems of pipes. Yarmouth will update its inventory of pipes and develop an asset class–specific asset management plan to determine their remaining useful life as well as costs to operate, maintain and replace the existing inventory. Lunenburg will start to formalize an asset management program across the organization and further develop its water and wastewater database.
GFL Environmental to acquire Terrapure
Canadian waste and environmental services firm GFL Environmental Inc. yesterday announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Terrapure Environmental Ltd. and its subsidiaries for a purchase price of $927.5 million. The acquisition will exclude the battery recycling business carried on by Terrapure. Terrapure is an integrated provider of solid and liquid waste management and industrial services with customers across Canada.
OSC reports on ICI investment, Ontario employment
The Ontario Construction Secretariat released its latest newsletter today. Headlines include: ICI investment has been stable for several months; January 2021 ICI investment is only marginally lower than in January 2020; and construction employment in Ontario has seen only slight declines in January and February despite workplace restriction.
