Governments invest in N.B. Route 10 upgrades

COLES ISLAND, N.B. — Federal Minister of Transport Marc Garneau recently announced an investment of $22 million for upgrades to Route 10 in Coles Island, N.B.

The project involves replacing two existing bridges on Route 10, located in southcentral N.B.

The two bridges will be removed and replaced with new structures that can accommodate two lanes of traffic and will meet forestry industry standards for vehicle weights and increase the fluidity of trade, states a release.

The Strategic Corridor Project — Route 10, Coles Island is a project of the Government of New Brunswick.

The Government of Canada is supporting infrastructure projects that contribute most to Canada’s continued success in international trade, the release reads.

The projects being funded will support economic activity and the physical movement of goods or people in Canada; help the transportation system withstand the effects of climate change and make sure it is able to support new technologies and innovation; address transportation bottlenecks and congestion along Canada’s trade corridors; and increase the fluidity of Canadian trade through ports, airports, roads, railways, intermodal facilities, bridges and border crossings.

A number of groups are eligible for funding under the National Trade Corridors Fund including provincial, territorial and municipal governments, Indigenous groups, not-for-profit and for-profit private-sector organizations, federal Crown corporations, Canadian port authorities and national airport system authorities.
