First Notice: IO loans for community infrastructure; new medical officer of health; upgrades to provincial parks

 

IO loans support community infrastructure in Tweed

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) has entered into a new commitment to provide financing through its Loan Program to the Municipality of Tweed for wastewater system upgrades. The loan is for $3.1 million. According to IO, the loan program has helped finance various types of projects such as the construction of roads, bridges, arena complexes and long-term care homes, and the acquisition and installation of capital assets like fire trucks and energy-efficient lighting for municipalities across the province.

Ontario slated to appoint new medical officer of health

Ontario is set to table a motion today that, if passed, would appoint Dr. Kieran Moore as the next chief medical officer of health for the province. Dr. Moore would succeed Dr. David Williams effective June 26. Since July 1, 2017, Dr. Moore has served as the local medical officer of health for Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington Public Health. Dr. Moore is also a member of the COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force.

Upgrades on the list for provincial parks in Ontario

Ontario is reiterating its commitment to spend $6 million, which was initially announced in the fall 2020 budget, on upgrades to provincial parks that will improve overnight stays. The improvements include providing more electrical campsites and expanding and improving roofed accommodations, such as cabins and yurts. Work has already begun and the first of these upgrades will be completed in 2021.

Canada’s Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade Mary Ng will make an announcement on the Black Entrepreneurship Program today at 11:15 a.m.
