Feds, Ontario fund 50 affordable housing units in Hamilton

HAMILTON, ONT. — The federal government and other funding partners have announced funding for 50 affordable housing units in Hamilton.

The McQuesten Lofts project at 256 Parkdale Ave. N. is a development of Indwell Community Homes that targets vulnerable people in need of secure housing, stated a release. Candidates are homeless people, those suffering from mental health and addictions, and urban Indigenous people.

The federal government has allocated $3 million to support the project through the National Housing Co-Investment Fund in addition to a joint investment with the province of $2.8 million through the Affordable Housing Bilateral Agreement.

The project will deliver fully independent apartments.

“Our government’s policies have delivered historic results in getting more housing built faster and complement our nearly $4.4 billion in investments over the past three years to grow and enhance community and supportive housing, address homelessness and respond to COVID-19,” stated provincial Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark in a statement.
