Building permit issued for Barrie high school

BARRIE, ONT. — The Simcoe County District School Board will be moving ahead with the construction of a high school in southeast Barrie, Ont.

The project took a major step forward recently with the City of Barrie issuing a building permit, allowing the contractor, Pre-Eng Construction, to begin work on the site immediately. Completion is anticipated by 2021.

The new school is about 135,700 square feet. According to the board, there will be two athletic fields, one natural turf and one artificial turf, and an eight-lane all-weather track.

There will also be specialty tech classrooms. The school itself will act as a retaining wall and will be a three-storey walk out.
