LONDON, ONT. — London City Council has approved the $58-million Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway grade separation project for Adelaide Street.
A four-lane underpass will be built on the arterial road.
A report to the Civic Works committee indicated there are up to 43 crossings of the existing Adelaide Street daily, blocking traffic up to two hours per day. Adelaide Street accommodates over 25,500 vehicles daily.
Council approved the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study for the improvements on Aug. 28. The study was carried out by WSP.
A city staffer said construction is anticipated to start in early 2021 and take two years to complete.
CP will fund 15 per cent of the costs. Seventeen properties may be affected by the build.
