Financial close achieved for Rutherford Station RER

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — EllisDon has announced its team, EllisDon Infrastructure Transit (EDIT), has achieved financial close on the $239-million contract to design, build and finance the Regional Express Rail (RER) Rutherford Station Project in York region.

As part of the new Rutherford GO Station, the project includes a new multi-level parking structure with an integrated station building and a redesign of the surface parking, kiss and ride and bus loop. The project also includes improved pedestrian access, new rail platforms and a second heavy rail track and provision for future third express centre track, said a recent release. There will also be a rail/road grade separation on Rutherford Road.

Members of the EDIT team include:

  • constructor — EllisDon Civil and EllisDon Design-Build;
  • design — Wood, Strasman Architects Inc., Mulvey & Banani International Inc., The Aquila Group, Condor Signals & Communications Inc., NAK Design Strategies; and
  • financial adviser — EllisDon Capital Inc.

Infrastructure Ontario is involved in project administration. The agency said in an online post the upgrades will help to accommodate increased capacity on the Barrie GO line as part of the planned expansion of GO Transit rail service.

EDIT will start design work immediately, with construction to start in spring 2019 and completion expected in 2023.

“We look forward to delivering this project that will improve the transit experience for commuters and help Metrolinx achieve their vision,” said EllisDon civil vice-president and area manager Max Mantha in the statement.
