Transport Futures to hold subway forum on June 26

TORONTO — Transport Futures has announced details of its Subway Planning Forum scheduled for June 26 at the University of Toronto’s Innis Town Hall.

The forum will be focused on the province’s $28.5-billion subway plan for Toronto with analysis of mobility, land use, engineering, economics, technology, financing, equity and the environment, stated a release. The event is sponsored by the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario and the forum will be moderated by TVO host Steve Paikin.

The Ontario government unveiled its subway plan on April 10.

“If the subway system is built out by 2031 as promised, it would contribute to the government’s ‘open for business’ objectives. Without a well-functioning transportation network, Toronto cannot compete effectively with other Canadian city regions, let alone international ones,” commented Martin Collier, founder of Transport Futures, in the release.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • MPP Jessica Bell, Ontario New Democratic Party
  • MPP Michael Coteau, Ontario Liberal Party
  • MPP Mike Schreiner, Ontario Green Party
  • David Dimmer, Thales Canada
  • David Crowley, transport planning consultant
  • William Denning, Walmer Consulting
  • Shoshanna Saxe, University of Toronto.

The forum format currently calls for four short presentations followed by a moderated panel discussion. A half-hour has been set aside for questions from the floor.
