ORILLIA, ONT. — Hydro One Inc. has announced it is moving forward with plans to build a new $150-million Ontario grid control centre in Orillia.
The location in Orillia was selected for improved accessibility, cost considerations and minimal impact on employees currently working at the existing grid control centre in nearby Barrie, a Sept. 23 release stated.
The company anticipates moving approximately 150 to 250 jobs to the new facility.
The facility is expected to serve as one of the company’s technology hubs in future, said Hydro One. Once the new grid control centre is completed, the existing facility in Barrie will operate as the back-up control centre.
It is expected construction will begin later this year.
