Community infrastructure in Milton gets funding for upgrades and improvements

MILTON, ONT. — Two projects that will improve local community and recreational infrastructure in Milton, Ont. will receive funding from various levels of government.

The first project involves upgrades to the café and meeting room facilities at the Community Living North Halton building including replacement of existing carpet with vinyl flooring, adding new light fixtures, updating washrooms, expanding the café meeting area and repainting meeting spaces.

The second project involves the rehabilitation and expansion of the Crawford Lake Boardwalk which includes the installation of helical piles for boardwalk support and new decking and guardrails and the refurbishment of rest stops, viewing areas and educational signage.

The Government of Canada is investing $939,900 in the renovation and expansion of café and meeting rooms at Community Living North Halton, and the Crawford Lake Boardwalk through the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada plan. The Government of Ontario is providing $783,172, Community Living North Halton is investing over $18,600 and the Halton Region Conservation Authority is investing $912,000.

“The Lunchbox Café is a training café for adults with intellectual disabilities and these renovation funds will allow us to expand and improve our current space, increase our visibility within the community and provide our trainees with additional hands on experience within our program,” said Cheryl Miller, manager of the Lunchbox Café Training Program, in a statement. “These funds will also allow us to update our meeting rooms and continue to keep us connected to the community by providing space for private and corporate functions.”
