Ford, Mulroney kick off work on Hamilton’s Confederation GO station

HAMILTON, ONT. — Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney gathered with City of Hamilton officials recently to mark the official start of construction of the Confederation GO station in east Hamilton.

The station will feature an accessible island platform with canopies, pedestrian tunnel, 15-vehicle passenger pick-up and drop-off area and direct stair access from Centennial Parkway. Commuters will also have access to approximately 150 additional parking spaces.

An estimated 122,500 people and 63,900 jobs will be located within five kilometres of Confederation GO Station by 2041, stated a release. GO Bus route 12 connects Confederation with the Burlington GO Station and the Dundas Street and Highway 407 park and ride lot to the west, and Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls to the east.

The new station will be a key link on the new 14-kilometre LRT line currently in the early stages of construction. The LRT will offer service from McMaster University to Eastgate Square.

The province continues to work with Canadian National Railway to secure access to the corridor west of Burlington GO station needed for further service expansion into Hamilton.

“Families, commuters and businesses throughout Hamilton and across the Greater Golden Horseshoe rely on the Lakeshore West line every day,” stated Ford. “Building the new Confederation GO station will make it easier for Hamilton commuters to access transit and boost economic growth.”
