TORONTO — The Toronto Community Benefits Network (TCBN) Career Talks in Construction and Trades 2021 online series kicks off with a session focused on child care.
TCBN Career Talks in Construction — Future of Construction and Trades Jobs in Toronto how to deal with the labour shortage? is a bi-weekly online discussion series that focuses on connecting people who are interested in a pathway into construction with industry leaders from various industry sectors.
The first webinar of the series will take place Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The talk will be focused on child care, which can be a barrier for mothers and parents who are trying to get into the construction and trades sectors. Often women who graduate from TCBN programs are unable to capitalize on opportunities because child care is an issue, indicates a release.
The speakers for the session include Armine Yalnizyan, a Canadian economist and the Atkinson Foundation’s Fellow on the Future of Workers; Hartley Ellis, RSE, who is an advocate promoting the trades to young people and a mentor with the TCBN’s NexGen Builders Mentorship program; and Patricia Tejeda, a single mother of two young children from the Dominican Republic who is eager to enter the construction field after graduating from the TCBN Quickstart in Construction Pre-apprenticeship program and the NexGen Builders Mentorship program.
