Forklift operator killed at Mississauga construction site

MISSISSAUGA — A 56-year-old worker was pronounced dead at a Mississauga construction worksite Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 5) when a forklift unloading construction materials tipped over.

Peel police got a call at 3:55 p.m. indicating there had been an incident at 22 Pine Ave. in Mississauga.

The forklift was unloading material following a construction delivery when the incident occurred. The Ministry of Labour reported a worker inside the cab of the forklift sustained fatal injuries when the load of the forklift was elevated and tipped forward.

Police and emergency services attended the scene. The worker was pronounced dead at 4:26 p.m.

The constructor of the project has been confirmed as Woodcastle Homes Ltd., and the employer of the deceased worker is Ron Little Trucking.

A Ministry of Labour inspector and engineer also visited the scene for investigation. One requirement was issued to Ron Little Trucking, the employer, to provide documentation.

The ministry investigation continues.
