Inquest into construction project death announced

TORONTO — An inquest will be held into the death of a man who died working on a construction project in Downsview Park in Toronto.

Scott Johnson, 33, died on June 16, 2012 when a temporary concert stage he was working on collapsed.

Dr. Roger Skinner, regional supervising coroner for Central Region, Toronto West Office recently announced that the inquest will be held. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act when a worker dies on a construction project.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Johnson’s death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths, states a release issued by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
