TORONTO — Toronto Police have reported on an incident early Friday morning (Jan. 11) on Yonge Street in which construction material fell from a building onto the street below.
The hazard was reported at 4:08 a.m. at Yonge and Shuter streets. About 20 pieces of metal 10 to 15 feet long fell but no one was struck or injured.
Toronto Police Constable David Hopkinson said the material fell 60 storeys. Images showed thick metal bars lying on the sidewalk.
The Ministry of Labour said it was reported that pieces of scaffold had fallen and that the contractor was Tucker HiRise.
Yonge Street was closed and investigations by the police, the City of Toronto and the Ministry of Labour were launched.
Yonge Street was later reopened.
