Worker dies installing Marathon steel bridge

MARATHON, ONT. — A worker has been killed while installing a temporary steel bridge in Marathon, Ont.

The Ministry of Labour (MOL) was notified of the reported fatality at a construction site in the town, located in Thunder Bay District, on the afternoon of Aug. 14. The employer is Belanger Construction.

It was reported, but not confirmed, that a worker was installing a temporary steel bridge when the bridge shifted and pinned the worker, Janet Deline, a spokesperson for the MOL, told the Daily Commercial News August 15.

An investigator has been assigned and will be attending the scene to further investigate the incident, Deline reported. No orders or requirements have been issued.
