OTTAWA — Four workers were sent to hospital May 21 when a rebar cage gave way during work near the future Ottawa airport LRT station site.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Crews working on the TransitNEXT project to extend the Trillium Line were installing a caisson when the mishap occurred.
Published reports from the Ottawa Paramedic Service said one worker had potential injuries to the spine while another had head and chest injuries.
The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development sent an inspector to the site to investigate and three requirements were issued: to the constructor, SNC Lavalin Constructors (Pacific) Inc.; to the employer, GFL Infrastructure Group; and to another employer, Mansteel Rebar Ltd.
The ministry investigation continues.
TransitNEXT is a subsidiary of SNC-Lavalin.
