TORONTO — An 82-year-old woman in a wheelchair was killed in a collision with a dump truck in the Danforth community of Toronto yesterday.
Toronto Police responded to a report of the collision at Danforth Avenue and Main Street just after 3 p.m. It is reported that the woman in her wheelchair was crossing from the southeast corner to the northeast corner of the intersection.
A 53-year-old man was driving a dump truck northbound on Main Street, turned right to head eastbound on Danforth Avenue and struck the woman in the wheelchair using the crosswalk.
The woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The driver of the truck remained on the scene and is co–operating with investigators.
The investigation by members of Traffic Services is ongoing.
Police are asking local residents, businesses and drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident to contact investigators.
