Inquest into Toronto construction worker’s death announced

TORONTO — The date for the inquest into the death of a worker on a construction site in Toronto will be held this month.

The inquest into the death of Craig Blackett will begin Nov. 21, Dr. Jennifer M. Dmetrichuk, regional supervising coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office announced recently.

Blackett, 41, died on May 27, 2016. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act and will examine the circumstances surrounding Blackett’s death.

The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately nine witnesses.

The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths in similar circumstances.

The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. at the Forensic Services and Coroners Complex, Courtroom B, 25 Morton Shulman Ave. in Toronto. Dr. Jennifer Tang will be the presiding officer and Kelly Simpson will be inquest counsel.
