UOIT Library

A $22.7-million library, designed to function as the intellectual and social commons of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), has officially opened.

Designed by Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc., the four-floor facility houses a large collection of print materials. Wireless access is provided to extensive electronic collections. Large study halls overlook the landscaped quadrangle. A 60-seat cafe overlooks a reflecting pond/ice rink.

The library was one of a trio of buildings which officially opened late last month—the others are the Science building and Business/ IT building, also designed by Diamond and Schmitt.

EllisDon was construction manager on all three projects.

Oshawa-located UOIT is the province’s first laptop-based university.
