Greenwin expands Laptops for Learning program

TORONTO—Ontario developer Greenwin Corp. has announced the expansion of its Laptops for Learning initiative, pledging to double its promise to provide computers to young people in Toronto’s Jane and Finch community.

The new pledge is to provide 2,000 laptops at no cost.

As part of its commitment, Greenwin stated in a release, it is challenging its colleagues in the Toronto real estate sector to join the effort.

“We’re asking our colleagues at banks, advisory firms, media companies and real estate groups to get involved by way of monetary donations or donations of new or used laptops that Greenwin will refurbish,” said Kevin Green, president and CEO of Greenwin, in a statement. “Kids have been isolated from friends and depression and anxiety rates have skyrocketed. Many school-aged youth are in situations where there are three, four, five kids to one computer.”

Greenwin is working with Toronto Police’s 31 Division on the project. The program, originally launched this fall, is being led by Greenwin’s social responsibility division, called Greenwin Cares.
