City of Oshawa invites nominations for Urban Design Awards Program

OSHAWA, ONT.  — The City of Oshawa is calling for nominations for the 2018 Urban Design Awards Program.

The program celebrates projects that reflect excellence in architecture and urban design and enhance the image of the city.

The program will acknowledge the significant contributions that architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, developers, builders, renovators and other individuals make to the appearance, livability and quality of life in the city, states a release.

Nominations are free and can be made by anyone.

Examples of potential nominations could include buildings, neighbourhoods, public spaces, streets or parks.

The deadline for nomination submissions is Friday, April 13 and nominated projects must have been completed after March 15, 2014.

“The Urban Design Awards honour the high-quality developments that shape our city,” said Councillor John Aker, chair of the development services committee, in a statement. “In the past, the program has been a great success. I look forward to reviewing the 2018 nominations.”

Winning projects will receive an Award of Excellence from the City of Oshawa and be recognized at a formal ceremony in June 2018.

In addition, award winners may be eligible to participate in the 2018 National Urban Design Awards (Tier II) Program administered by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
