It’s been 17 years since the 9-11 attacks rocked the world, killing nearly 3,000 people when terrorists took control of four planes. The World Trade Center skyscrapers were destroyed, a portion of the Pentagon severely damaged and a Pennsylvania field where a plane crashed thanks to the heroic actions of passengers is considered “sacred ground.” Although it has been almost two decades since Sept. 11, 2001, stories continue to be told about rebuilding efforts and theories about the attacks. The Daily Commercial News has compiled a few stories that describe some of the efforts being made to move forward while honouring the victims, as well as an in-depth feature story that explores a highly refuted claim by a McMaster University engineering professor. He steadfastly maintains the collapse of three World Trade Center buildings can only be adequately explained if “controlled demolition” is part of the equation.
