Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence winners named
MORIYAMA & TESHIMA ARCHITECTS + ACTON OSTRY ARCHITECTS — The Arbour project in Toronto by Moriyama & Teshima Architects/Acton Ostry Architects Inc. Associated Architects has been named a Canadian Architect award of excellence winner.

TORONTO — Fourteen projects have been named winners of annual Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence.

The awards are given for “design proposals that embody qualities of innovation and overall design excellence, as well as social and environmental sustainability,” said a recent post.

Of the 190 submissions received for this year’s awards program, the jury selected seven projects for Awards of Excellence, four projects for Awards of Merit and two projects for Student Awards of Excellence. The program also includes a new award for excellence in architectural photography.

 

The Awards of Excellence winning projects are:

  • Windermere Fire Station 31, Edmonton, gh3* (lead design architect) with S2 Architecture (prime consultant)
  • Idea Exchange Old Post Office, Cambridge, Ont., RDH Architects
  • The Octagon, Toronto, Ja Architecture Studio
  • The Arbour, Toronto, Moriyama & Teshima Architects/Acton Ostry Architects Inc. Associated Architects
  • New Paddock — F1 Grand Prix du Canada, Montreal, Les Architects FABG
  • Bibliotheque Gabrielle-Roy, Quebec City, Consortium Saucier+Perrotte / GLCRM Architectes
  • Skola Smichov, Prague, Office Ou.

 

The Award of Merit winning projects are:

  • James Avenue Pumping Station, Winnipeg, 5468796 Architecture
  • International Estonian Centre, Toronto, Kongats Architects
  • Amenagement du musee et du dome de la basilique de l’oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mount-Royal, Montreal, Atelier TAG and Architecture49 in consortium
  • Insectarium de Montreal, Kuehn Malvezzi, Pelletier de Fontenay, Jodoin Lamarre Pratte with Atelier le Balto.
  • The Student Award of Excellence winners are:
  • Engaging the Post-Industrial Frontier, Joshua Nieves, Dalhousie University, Halifax
  • Northern Cloud, Mark Melnichuk, McGill University, Montreal.
