CLAIR, N.B. — The federal government has announced funding of $2.4-million to help develop what is being billed as the world’s first fully automated cedar shingle facility, in Clair, N.B.
Shingle manufacturer Waska will use the funding to create a new production platform using lasers, sensors and advanced algorithms to introduce the required automation, stated a July 18 release.
The new digitized automated process will result in higher precision rates, lower production costs, reduce energy usage and enhance efficiency, said Waska.
The funding is provided through Natural Resources Canada’s Investments in Forest Industry Transformation program.
Waska is a division of Clair Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. It has been in operation for 50 years and focuses on manufacturing a variety of shingles and fences.
