Ontario sells properties to enable LTC builds

TORONTO — The Ontario government has announced it is selling three surplus provincial properties with the requirement that long-term-care homes be built on portions of the properties.

The measure will enable the construction of 512 long-term care beds at 2165 Dundas St. W. in Oakville, 256 beds at 7231 Martin Grove Rd. in Vaughan and 128 beds at 50-100 Bloomington Rd. in Aurora.

The plan forms part of the government’s commitment to create 30,000 beds over 10 years, stated a Nov. 3 release. The government has also developed an Accelerated Build program, which is adding 1,280 beds through expedited procurement and construction.

CBRE is the broker of record managing the sales. The deals are being brokered with a Minister’s Zoning Order in place for each site.

“We are delivering on our commitment to transition our seniors from waitlists to modern long-term-care homes, providing a warm and safe environment with the quality of care they deserve,” said Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton in a statement. “These new homes will allow almost 900 of our loved ones to enter long-term-care homes sooner, and ease hallway health care in local hospitals.”
