Below-grade work is moving up on the mixed-use project at 19 Duncan St. in Toronto by Westbank Corporation and Allied Properties REIT.
The construction manager is EllisDon Corp. and the work includes some demolition of the heritage- designated Southam Press Building built in 1908 with renovations to add office space and a new mixed-use tower containing 10-storeys of office space that will be occupied by Thomson Reuters. A 47-storey rental tower will be above containing 432 suites and four levels of underground parking. Amenities will include a health club, restaurant and retail. The project was designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects. Consultants are ERA Architects Inc. (heritage), Jablonsky Ast & Partners (structural), Reinbold Engineering Group (mechanical) and Nemetz & Associates Ltd. (electrical). Subtrades include Rafat General Contracting, GFL, Verdi, Innocon Inc. (concrete) and Ontario Cutting and Coring.
