St. James Town West Park in Toronto to get revitalized

St. James Town West Park in Toronto to get revitalized

TORONTO—The City of Toronto is making improvements to St. James Town West Park, a one-acre public park on Sherbourne Street in the city’s St. James Town neighbourhood.

Most of the land is currently leased to the city by Medallion Developments Inc. who also owns the parking garage below the park. The park design will consider the parking structure as well as future development which is expected to be built beside it.

Medallion will be redeveloping properties at 591 to 601 Sherbourne St. and repairing the parking garage roof.

As a result, the majority of the park will be removed, “creating an opportunity for a fresh design of the park that meets the needs of the local community,” states a City of Toronto website.

The improvements are being funded by the development and are co-ordinated by the City of Toronto.

The project timeline, which is subject to change, includes park visioning (winter 2021), concept design options (spring 2021), preferred concept design (summer 2021) with construction scheduled to begin in summer or fall 2022.
