Orono library to undergo accessibility improvements

Orono library to undergo accessibility improvements

CLARINGTON, ONT.—Clarington Public Library’s Orono Branch will be undergoing renovations to enhance public accessibility.

The Orono Accessibility Project includes the installation of a fully accessible entrance and universal washroom. The upgrades will be accomplished by renovating the branch’s current non-fiction room at the back of the house, which used to be the summer kitchen, indicates a release.

The renovation process is expected to begin in the fall. The library will try to maintain current operating hours, but advises “there may be intermittent noise disruptions or limited access to parts of the collection.”

“This is an exciting project for us to be launching,” stated Monika Machacek, CEO of the Clarington Public Library, Museums and Archives, in a statement. “Library and Museums are a community resource, and we want to ensure that people of every ability are able to access library services.

The library is a well-loved part of the Orono community, and the library board and I are happy to see investments in this branch that will continue to enhance services to residents.”
