TORONTO — Forty-four nominees have been announced for the 47th Annual Heritage Toronto Awards.
This year, the awards, which will be held in-person for the first time in three years, will recognize extraordinary contributions to Toronto’s heritage in three categories: Public History, Book, and Built Heritage. The awards will be presented Oct. 17 at The Carlu in Toronto.
There are 14 nominees for the Public History award, presented by Clifford Restoration Ltd., which include Thank You For Keeping Us On Track; the ON-FOOT: Gaybourhood Music Tour; and the short film Missisakis: On the Indigenous History of the Tkaronto Islands.
The 24 Book Award nominees include Modest Hopes: Homes and Stories of Toronto’s Workers from the 1820s to the 1920s; Undressed Toronto: From the Swimming Hole to Sunnyside, How a City Learned to Love the Beach, 1850-1935; and Indigenous Toronto: Stories That Carry This Place.
Among the six projects in the Built Heritage category are the revitalization of The Oculus; the reimagining of Waterworks; and the renovation and expansion of Massey Hall. Three awards will be presented in this category, including the Crafts & Trades Award presented by Heather & Little Ltd.
