EDMONTON — Transport Canada is providing $2.9 million in funding under the program Advance Connectivity and Automation in the Transportation System to help Canadian jurisdictions prepare for connected and automated vehicles (AV).
The funding will support research, studies and technology demonstrations across Canada. The results will help address technical, policy and regulatory issues related to connected and automated vehicles, states a release issued by Transport Canada. Findings will be shared extensively to encourage further innovation across Canada.
In support of the program, Amarjeet Sohi, minister of infrastructure and communities, on behalf of Marc Garneau, minister of transport, announced $500,000 in funding to the University of Alberta for a project to pilot the enhanced privacy of connected vehicle communications.
