The world’s first-ever 3-D printed excavator project, dubbed Project AME (Additive Manufactured Excavator), was produced at the U.S. Department of Energy’s manufacturing demonstration facility at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. The first time the hydraulic arm was used to actually dig into the dirt was at the live demonstration onsite at the CONEXPO show in Las Vegas.
