RFQ issued for major Nova Scotia marine terminal project

MULGRAVE, N.S. — A request for qualifications (RFQ) has been issued inviting teams to apply to design a proposed $300-million, 315-acre marine container terminal in Guysborough County, N.S. on the Strait of Canso.

The Melford Atlantic Gateway Container Terminal and Logistics Park is an initiative of SSA Marine, Melford International Terminal and Cyrus Capital Partners L.P. in joint venture, an SSA Marine statement explained. The terminal will be become the closest North American port on the Great Circle Route to Europe and Asia via the Suez Canal.

Already fully permitted, the terminal will accommodate Ultra Large Container Vessels for both trans-shipment throughout North America’s East Coast and intermodal service to Eastern Canada and U.S. markets through a Canadian National rail connection.

The RFQ was issued Dec. 15 and will close Feb. 13. The project consists of a 172-acre Container Terminal and 250-acre Logistics Park with the ability to expand in the future.

SSA Marine is the world’s largest independent, privately held marine terminal operator, with activities at nearly 250 terminal facilities and rail operations throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America, South America, Asia, New Zealand and South Africa, noted the statement.
