Here4BC wildfire campaign officially wraps up Aug. 31

VANCOUVER – If you want to help fight B.C. wildfires, you have until tomorrow (Aug. 31).

British Columbia’s Interior has been ravaged by wildfires since mid-summer and remains under a state of emergency. It is the worst wildfire in the province’s history.

The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) recently rolled out the Here4BC campaign to encourage members of the construction industry to donate to the Canadian Red Cross British Columbia Fires Appeal.

The VRCA had already extended its donation deadline to midnight, Aug. 31 and have confirmed they will not extend the donation window further.

The stated goal of the pledge drive is $1 million and to date $125,560 has been pledged in total from across Canada. Though the majority of donations were from B.C. companies and associations, money also came in from Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Yukon and Ontario.

Houle Electric’s employees and Convoy Supply Ltd. each gave the highest amount at $20,000. Scott Construction Group, Hollyburn Properties Ltd., Pitt Meadows Plumbing and Mechanical Systems (2001) Ltd., and Graham Construction and Engineering each gave $10,000.

To pledge before the deadline, employers, employees and construction associations can still go to here4bc.ca/pledge and donate. Once the pledge has been entered, it will placed on the company pledge listing page.
