Scott Construction announces new president and Alberta operations director

VANCOUVER – Scott Construction Group recently announced that Darin Hughes has been appointed the company’s new president and CEO, along with news that Alex Burgess is taking on the role of director of Alberta operations.

Scott Construction founder and former president and CEO John C. Scott will remain chairman.

Hughes joined Scott Construction in 2005 as a project manager and initially worked on several multi-phase projects at the University of British Columbia. In 2016, Hughes was appointed executive vice-president.

"I am honoured to be launching Scott into the next chapter, built on a 33-year history of building on trust. I have big shoes to fill but I have also benefitted from the wisdom and mentorship of John Scott over the years. I am committed to being the guardian of his legacy and to contributing my efforts to the continuing success of the organization," Hughes said in a statement.

Scott said he was happy to be passing the torch onto Hughes.

"I have every confidence in his ability to take Scott Construction to even greater heights. His ascension in our organization over the past 13 years has been consistent and well earned," Scott stated.

"I am also very excited to know our Alberta team will immediately benefit from the experience, talent and leadership that Alex Burgess has so clearly demonstrated throughout his impressive career. We are all eager to see him implement his intelligent plans for strategic growth in that market."

Burgess has worked in construction in Canada, the U.K., Bermuda and Saudi Arabia, where he was the construction manager for a billion-dollar residential community project.

"I was drawn specifically to Scott as an organization that has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to safety, quality of service, and strategic growth known throughout Western Canada. I am very proud to be a part Scott’s future," Burgess said.

Scott Construction currently has projects underway in Surrey, Richmond, Vancouver, North Vancouver and Burnaby and works in the commercial, light industrial, institutional and multi-residential markets of B.C. and Alberta.
