B.C. announces $6 million innovation centre for Okanagan

British Columbia premier Christy Clark announced on July 28 that the province will invest $6 million into development of an innovation centre located in Kelowna.

The 106,000 square-foot Okanagan Centre for Innovation will be built adjacent to the existing Okanagan Regional Library. The $35-million project is being funded largely by the Kelowna Sustainable Innovation Group, who will also own and operate the building.

The centre is intended to provide work space for budding local technology entrepreneurs, students and companies at a minimal cost.

"This new centre will help entrepreneurs get their companies up and running, and launch Kelowna not only as a national tech leader but a globally recognized destination for tech investment and entrepreneurial development," Clark said.

Construction is expected to begin in late summer and completion is estimated by 2016.
