City of Saskatoon accepting applications for 2017 Heritage Awards

SASKATOON – Applications are now being accepted by the City of Saskatoon’s municipal heritage advisory committee for the 2017 Municipal Heritage Awards, which honours achievements in heritage preservation on a biennial basis.

The awards recognize contributions within the city in the areas of archeology, history, museums, historic buildings and sites, genealogy, natural history and folklore.

An independent panel of professionals will evaluate entries in the categories of heritage conservation, with sub-categories of preservation, restoration and rehabilitation, and heritage considerations or compatibility with sub-categories of adaptive reuse, sensitive infill and sensitive addition, as well as a heritage space category.

There are also education, volunteer public service and youth categories, with honour, merit and recognition sub-categories. The youth category is open to entrants under 18 years of age.

Application forms, further information and criteria for each of the award categories is available at saskatoon.ca/heritage. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 20. Any project completed prior to Sept. 1 is eligible, including non-award winning submissions from past years.
