Construction has begun on the $606.2 million North Island Hospitals Project, which will build new hospitals in Campbell River and the Comox Valley in British Columbia.

The North Island Hospitals Project is being cost-shared through a 60/40 spit between the Province and the Comox Strathcona Regional Hospital District. The North Island Hospitals Project is a public-private partnership between Island Health and Tandem Health Partners.

The new 39,800-square-metre Comox Valley Hospital will have 153 beds, replacing the 120-bed St. Joseph’s General Hospital. The new 32,300-square-metre Campbell River Hospital will have 95 beds, replacing the existing 79-bed Campbell River Hospital.

Both hospitals are being built to LEED Gold standards, and are being built at the same time, with completion expected in 2017.
