BC Building Trades support Trudeau budget

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The BC Building Trades welcomed the 2017 budget commitment by the federal government to fund the Metro Mayor’s Transit Plan. At the same time, the council was disappointed to see the province refuse to move its share of funding from 33 per cent to 40 per cent.

"It’s essential we start building the mayor’s plan and break the transportation funding gridlock in Metro Vancouver," said Tom Sigurdson, executive director of the BC Building Trades, in a statement.

The BC Building Trades are supportive of the plan because it would bring needed jobs to the area.

A report from Green Jobs BC found "over its 10 years, the Mayors’ Council Transportation and Transit Plan will contribute to 26,322 person years of new direct employment, 43,800 person years of total employment, $2.96 billion in wages, and $4.48 billion toward GDP in Metro Vancouver."
